I have the wheels magazine when the NSX and Pulsar tied for car of the year and it was absolutely the SSS N14 that got the approval not the economy puss box.

That 125,000km of range is assuming the 200 uses 0 fuel. You basically will never get that difference back. However, it's possible when you go to sell the LC200 will still be worth more so you might get some back.

The 90’s Legacy wasn’t a bad car, when the turbo ones weren’t being nicked at least. My parents had a wagon with the EJ22 for years and years and I recall it had way over 300k. 90’s Subarus in general are great, I had a GC8 Type R and it’s still (after owning 30 or so cars) probably the best car I’ve ever had. Car of the year Japan would be a good one to do too. Lots of Honda in there and rightly so.

I had one of these for 4 years and loved everything about it except the high revs on the highway. Upgraded to the next model and found it to be a little less urgent, but a lot more grown up in terms of practicality. I now have the turbo version and it’s also a great car, though completely different from the last 2 - the low end torque is a massive improvement. The problem? With no Swift Sport model in sight, what to get that offers the same fun, reliability AND great value?

It was way too fast for my driving skills and like McFly in the 80's my tombstone was being etched before my eyes. Also, next COTY review video, I'm watching it after dark and having a shot every time someone says "fun fact".

I have 2 GtiR's in my paddock right now, should really get to work on them, just get a anti lift kit it will help with the understeer.

The Legacy is a pretty good car, great chassis confy and powerful with the 280hp (more 300hp) EJ208 twin turbo. A bit expensive in gas, especially if you use the second turbo. Got 300.000 km on my B4 RSK never had an headgasket issue.

Great episode boys! And I love you both but you’d be surprised about the Magna. How they drove back in the day compared to their rivals was actually one of their draw cards. Problem is, too many base models were sold, so that helped give them a boring image. And even though they were comfortable and refined, I have to agree the base model Executives were a little boring (much like base model commodores and falcons). But the Sports, Vrx and Ralliarts were lovely cars. And the manual versions were quick

Just to float an idea for you guys. In line with you brand/channel. Why don't you guys set a time period you feel is comfortable to adequately assess a car as "used". And you could run your own, used car of the year, 5 years on. You could do it every year.

I’ve recently been condemned to driving a 98 Magna and it’s by far been the worst car out of the 11 nuggets I’ve been through in the last 2 years. I usually love old cheap cars but this thing drove terribly and all the plastic trims were falling apart

Ours sucks. We bought it brand new and can’t even get 17mpg out of it, we’ve tried and replaced everything, nothing has worked. These things are massive gas guzzlers in the real world.

My first car was a 73 MKII Toyota Corona coupe, my mum had bought it new and my grandfather and father helped me rebuild the car.

There was a new e36 323i and new magna v6 in our household. The bitsamissing did live up to its name but was smoother, quieter and punchier than the bmw. The bmw never missed a beat though. Got lucky I guess.

The 70 series is a pain in the neck, sand and ruts. These things buck like a Bronco and are a real danger. Why do they have different wheel widths for the front and back? I had a 10-day work trip in the Kimberly and had to head back to town twice because the front wheel ABS sensor disconnected. Then, EVERY DAY, the safety check to hose down the alternator because it's in the BOTTOM of the engine. Finally, I love having folks working in vehicles with the early 2000s safety features. I don't care if they last half a million km. The elephant in the room is that these are uncomfortable, unreliable & unsafe work vehicles.

Great advice gents. 100% agree. But next challenge. Have you looked at insurance quotes for an under 25 to insure their first car? Got a mate's son who just got his P's. We picked up a 2004 Lexus IS200 from salvage auction as a first car for $1700 so he can get on the tools, learn about what it takes to fix and maintain cars. Thought this would be perfectly suitable as a first car. Automatic, ABS, Traction Control, Airbags, a bit rough round the edges and so gutless you really cant get into any trouble in it. Got it on the road and it's a fantastic thing for him. Then it turns out every insurer out there wants two times what the car is worth in one annual premium so it's just not worth it. This can't be the case for every cheap first car out there is it?

As an American, I find it rather hypocritical that people over here like to call them death traps. Seriously, they don't want them on the road because they're death traps? I keep thinking to myself what the crap do you think a motorcycle is then? Why is it allowed on the road? It's just so absurdly disingenuous. But that's just my take on the ridiculousness of it all.

BMW aren't meant to be driven use. they're meant to be leased. used for 3 years and returned. And that's how the engineer them. Parts have been egineered and disigned to fail and need replacing at that time.

Reading owners posts here who have not had major issues is interesting. Then there's so many Disco owners who've had nothing but problem after problem that every repair costs an "absolute fortune". It sounds like a lucky dip. Driving in comfort and luxury in a 4x4 sounds lovely and all that but when travelling in the Aussie Outback, reliability is paramount. That's why a Toyota Land Cruisers is a much more sensible proposition.
